A doctoral researcher of architecture course received the best presentation award of Kyushu Branch of City Planning Institute of Japan

Dr. DERBEL Mohamed Rami who belongs to the architecture course, Faculty of Science and Engineering, was awarded the best presentation award at the research presentation of Kyushu Branch of City Planning Institute of Japan on April 10, 2021.

The title of the research was “A study on the perception of urban heritage townscape by deep learning computer vision methods.” So, he studied to reveal the possibility whether AI can recognize the townscape of traditional towns with local heritage with high accuracy comparing with the recognition of professional panels. He tried to apply it to a traditional town in Saga prefecture, Hizenhama-shuku, and found its possibility.

This award targeted the researcher under 40 years old in Kyushu, especially who have gotten PhD recently, so his award is very honorable to Saga University and herewith celebrated. Besides, his research was conducted as a part of Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research (B) of KAKKENHI (19H02315, representative researcher: Prof. Dr. Nobuo MISHIMA).
