Center for Promotion of International Exchange

Message from Director

I am Maiko Sakamoto Pomeroy, newly appointed Director of the Center for the Promotion of International Exchange at Saga University, effective October 1, 2025.

Since its establishment in 2011, our Center has been dedicated to fostering global engagement through the promotion of study abroad opportunities for Japanese students, the admission and support of international students, and the advancement of international collaborative research. Based on a network of academic exchange agreements between faculties and partner institutions, we actively pursue initiatives such as student, faculty, and researcher exchanges, as well as various forms of global academic collaboration.

In recent years, our focus regarding international student support has expanded beyond simple “acceptance” to encompass “integration” and “settlement” assistance. We aim to help students who wish to pursue careers in Japan—particularly here in Saga—after completing their studies.

After earning my degree in Japan, I moved to the United States, where I completed advanced graduate studies, obtained a national license, and worked as a clinical psychologist and neuropsychologist in both clinical and educational settings. My experience abroad showed me the power of an environment that nurtures capable individuals regardless of nationality, race, age, or gender.

At Saga University, we aspire to provide a similar environment—one that encourages both Japanese and international students to pursue their studies earnestly, broaden their horizons, and develop the personal and professional qualities needed to thrive in the global community.

To achieve this vision, not only the faculty and staff of our Center but the entire university are committed to building a campus where every student can truly shine.

We sincerely ask for your continued support as we work together—universities, families, and society—to cultivate talented individuals who will contribute to a more connected and compassionate world.
