Thorough Animal and Plant Quarantine during the Summer Vacation Period (Request for Cooperation from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology)
To prevent the spread of plant pests and livestock diseases, Japan strictly restricts the entry of fruits and vegetables and meat and meat products
from overseas.
A plant quarantine certificate is required to bring in raw fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, etc., even if they are not prohibited.
Meat and meat products are prohibited.
No exceptions are made for in-flight meals, souvenirs, or small quantities.
Please note that penalties (up to 3 years in jail or a fine of up to 3 million yen (50 million
yen for corporations)) may be imposed for bringing in illegal items.
